Pattern Spotter for Ages 8-10
What comes next?
Pattern Spotter shows the start of a sequence and asks what comes next. Patterns are the entry point to algebraic thinking: spotting the rule behind a sequence is the same skill as working out the rule behind a formula, just with shapes instead of symbols.
The 8-10 level runs repeats of up to four items and leans heavily on number sequences: doubling, counting backwards, and skip counting in steps like 3s, 4s and 25s.
What it teaches
- Recognising and extending repeating patterns
- Growing patterns and size progressions
- Number sequences and skip counting
- Finding a missing element inside a sequence
How to play
- Look at the sequence along the top of the screen.
- Work out the rule. What keeps repeating or changing?
- Tap the item that should come next.
- Some rounds hide an item in the middle instead of the end.
