Rhyme Time for Ages 5-7

Which word sounds the same at the end?

Rhyme Time gives the child a word and a set of choices, and asks which one rhymes with it. Hearing that cat and hat end the same way is one of the strongest early predictors of later reading ability, and it is a listening skill rather than a reading one, so children can play this before they can read the words.

The 5-7 level widens the word list so the rhymes are less obvious and the wrong answers are more tempting, often words that start the same rather than end the same.

What it teaches

How to play

  1. Look at the word at the top and say it out loud.
  2. Say each of the choices out loud too.
  3. Tap the one that sounds the same at the end.
  4. Saying them aloud genuinely helps. Rhyme is heard, not seen.
